On a Saturday morning, I read the daily verse: “Give us this day our daily bread.” I wondered why such a well-known verse would be chosen as a daily verse and how it could be applicable.
Later that day, I was at the supermarket, loading groceries onto the conveyor belt. In the line ahead of me was a woman with a loaf of bread. She was frantically searching her pockets for money to pay. She looked like she lived on a minimum wage.
I asked her whether she needed the bread. (A silly question, of course.) “Yes,” she said. So I offered to pay for the bread and one more item for her.
Much later that day, the incident at the supermarket came back to mind, and I thought again of the daily verse: “Give us this day our daily bread.” God had used me to provide this woman with her daily bread. God can use small acts to encourage others and to glorify Him. The daily verse was truly relevant in a way I hadn’t imagined beforehand.
