In life, we face challenges and obstacles that can disrupt our relationship with God. Sometimes it feels like there’s interference on the line between us and Him. This static stems from the sins we commit and choices that distract us from the truth. So what can we do to reduce the noise and restore our connection with God?
The original meaning of the word sin is: “to miss your goal.” Sin can take many forms such as selfishness, hatred, deceit, and unfaithfulness. It creates distance between you and God; the line becomes fuzzy.
At a certain moment, I noticed during prayer that my “line upward” wasn’t clear. God didn’t seem present. I asked Him to show me what was standing between us. The name of a former friend came to mind, and I began to suspect something.
“I noticed during prayer that my line upward wasn’t clear.”
I prayed again and became silent so I could allow God to speak to me. Once more… her name. When her name surfaced a third time during prayer, I was certain. The situation was this: around the age of 18, I had told that particular friend that I didn’t want to be friends with her anymore. At the time, I had no connection with God—and evidently no empathy either. I hadn’t expressed it very tactfully, and now God was clearly showing me that I had been harsh and blunt. Oops. I had hurt her, and God wanted me to offer her my apology.
