Dona nobis pacem – give us peace

Willemijn\* When the war in Ukraine broke out, I felt overwhelmed with fear. Fear for my future, but most of all for the future of my children. I couldn’t control the anxiety, no matter how hard I tried. After struggling on my own for several days, I surrendered it to God. I prayed: “Lord, I can’t fix this myself, but I’m so afraid. Will You come into this situation?”

Almost immediately, a song began to play in my heart. It was an old piece by Elly and Rikkert: Dona nobis pacem. I hadn’t heard it in ages and didn’t even remember what the lyrics were about. So I looked them up and read: “Give us peace. Shine in the dark night. Give us peace, the peace creation longs for.” Amen! It landed straight into my heart. No matter what storms may come—God is present with His peace. And my fear disappeared.
