Nisa: 'I lived in a village in Pakistan, in the border area with Afghanistan and Iran, and grew up in a nominally Christian* family. My parents believed that all religions lead to heaven and were fine with me being educated at the madrassa, the Islamic village school. When I was eleven years old, the Islam teacher came to me with the words: 'I think you are beautiful. You are now almost at marriageable age, so I would like to marry you."
I was shocked. The son of the Islam teacher was in my class and was the same age as me. My teacher said, 'I have a good job and I have money, so I'm going to see your parents. They are happy, because you are then under the roof. You are happy, because you have a good future. And I'm happy to have such a beautiful woman there.'
Prayer and fasting
'I couldn't get a bite down my throat and was sick to death of it. I didn't know what to do and had only learned to pray the Muslim way. So I prayed, "God, if You really exist, will You make my parents stand up for me? I don't want this and I'd rather die.'
I fasted for three days. Then he was on the doorstep. The amazing thing was that my mother heard his story and said: 'Have you gone completely crazy? It's a child.' My father showed him the door. Shortly afterwards we moved to a town tens of kilometers away for our safety. There I went to a Christian school and learned more about the Bible. I just wasn't deeply rooted in the faith yet.
You are My daughter
When I was sixteen, I was confronted with the same man. He suddenly stood on the doorstep again and said: 'I saw you on the street and recognized you immediately. You are just as beautiful, or even more beautiful than when you were at school with me. I won't go.
Panic set in. In my desperation, I asked a Christian friend, "Please help me to pray for real." She laughed a little and thought it was strange that as a sixteen-year-old Christian I couldn't do that. She then told me the story of Esther from the Bible, who prayed and fasted for three days and that God gave her answer. I then started fasting and said to God: 'I have heard from other believers that You speak to us and therefore I ask You to speak to me too.'
I continued to pray this prayer constantly and on the third day God spoke to me very clearly. I heard the words in my heart: 'You are my daughter. Don't be afraid. I will rescue you from this situation. I am the same God Who helped you when you were eleven years old." It made me very happy and I got a deep calm and an indescribable peace in my heart.
Stop what you're doing
Later that day, when I got home, I got a phone call. The same man called again. He sounded panicked and asked me, "What are you doing?" I replied, "What could I do? I'm in a hopeless situation.' He answered: 'Stop, because you are working with supernatural powers: I feel that and I beg you to stop immediately. I was talking to a fortune teller and every time we mentioned your name when saying a curse, we were attacked. It felt like the space we were in started to shake and tremble.'
He apologized and promised: 'I will never mention your name to the fortune teller again, but please stop what you are doing. I will never bother you again." And he never did that again. At the end of the phone call I said to him: 'I didn't do this, it's the God I pray to. He fought this battle for me.'
Shortly afterwards I was baptized and I decided to become a missionary. That's why I'm now in a Bible school. When I finish in two years, I prefer to go back to my native village to tell about God's love.'
