Dog owners

Hondenbaasjes

It was a quiet morning perfect for walking the dog. In the distance, I saw a slightly older, energetic woman approaching. I’d seen her before. We’d usually chat briefly about the dogs nothing more.

“Hello, Lieke,” I said again this time. “Hello!” she replied.

After our usual dog-talk, I spontaneously asked, “Would you like to come over for a cup of coffee sometime? Can you do Wednesday in two weeks, around half past ten?” “I’ll check my calendar when I get home,” she said. We said goodbye, and I headed home.

What had I just done? Invited a stranger over for coffee? Really? Would she even remember? Would she come? I walked my dog every day, at the same time. But I didn’t see her again.

I prayed, “Lord, if this is a good plan, let her come. If not, then don’t.” That Wednesday arrived and sure enough, around half past ten, the doorbell rang. It was Lieke. Within five minutes, she brought up the topic of faith, and I was able to share how I’d come to know Jesus and that He also wants to be there for her.
