Flat tires near the Schiphol tunnel

Lekke banden bij de Schipholtunnel

Translation: Jaïro's story — Literally on the road

When I had just gotten my driver’s license, I decided to practice changing a car tire “on dry land”—on the sidewalk in front of our home. I thought it might come in handy if I ever got a flat tire and needed to act quickly. Little did I know that I’d be putting that skill to the test the very next week…

After church, we were driving as a family through the Schiphol tunnel when the car suddenly started rattling, and we slowed down. Once out of the tunnel, we parked on the shoulder and saw we had a flat tire. We replaced it with a “spare.” It took less than five minutes, since the tire-switch trick was still fresh in my mind.

Just as we were about to drive off, a red car stopped an elderly woman was behind the wheel. She was trembling and didn’t quite realize what had happened. She too had a flat tire. No stress—we were able to help her. In record time, we changed her wheel, handed her the “flower greeting from the church,” along with a gospel tract. We waved her off as she merged back into traffic.
