This painting was born out of prayer and worship, with the song “Samen” (“Together”) by Elly and Rikkert in my mind. “One by one, stone by stone. Not alone, but together, we are the house of the Lord.”
It made me think of fabric. At its core, fabric begins with loose fibers that are brought together into threads and then woven into cloth. From that fabric, beautiful and practical things are made like a sweater or a ship’s sail.
In the same way that threads come together and become one, so it is with followers of Jesus who gather and share life. We’re not isolated fibers standalone people but together we form the Body of Christ. God never meant for us to be alone. He made us for connection with Him and with each other.
Together. There is such great strength in that.
God invites you to make genuine connections with those around you: honest, sincere, vulnerable, and with open ears and an open heart.
He invites you to share the relationships you have with Him in the same way: honest, sincere, vulnerable, and with open ears and an open heart. So that in those connections just like in a sweater warmth can arise. And just like in a sail there can be propulsion and direction.
Together. There is such great strength in that.
